About Genie

Nobody has to tell you to work harder.

Whatever your lane is — the company, the practice, the pulpit, the crew — you pick it and you go all in. Head down. Execute. Don't stop to check the score. That's how you've won everything you've ever won.

So when it stopped working at home, you did the only thing you've ever known how to do.

You worked harder.

You provide. You show up. You fix what's broken and you don't complain about what it costs you. You're earning — every day, the whole time, the way a man earns.

But no one told you the scoreboard at home is in a different building.

You don't stop to look. Men like you don't. You look when something makes you look.

Now, something has made you look.

The house has gone cold. And she's gone — not out the door. Just gone. Somewhere behind her own eyes, and you can't tell when it happened.

And you've never said the next part out loud.

Not to your brother. Not to your best friend. Not to the guy you've known since college who'd take a bullet for you.

She doesn't see me anymore.

You'd rather carry it than say it. So you carry it. And at three in the morning it sits on your chest like something parked there.

You'll never say it out loud.

I've seen it in men who run companies, close surgeries, and lead churches — men who can do anything on this earth except say those words to another human being.

You don't have to say it to me either.

Before I tell you anything else about me, I'm going to tell you the thing I don't want to say either.

I had the affair.

Genie Goodwin

Not a client. Not a composite. Me.

I confessed it to my husband myself. Nobody caught me. After I told him, I said: I will do whatever you require of me. Even if it's divorce. I'll pay the price for my actions.

He kept me.

I don't tell you that so you'll think less of me — or more of me. I tell you because of what it means for you.

Whatever you did, or didn't do, I've done the thing you are not supposed to be able to come back from.

I came back from it and built a stronger marriage because of it.

Here's the other half.

I've also been her.

The wife who went cold. The one who was furious and couldn't have told you why — and who would have said nothing's wrong if you'd asked.

So when I tell you what your wife is actually thinking, I'm not guessing from a book.

And the truth underneath all of it I've discovered:

Men love women as if they were men.

Women love men as if they were women.

You've been loving her in your language. Fluently. Generously. At a cost nobody ever thanked you for. Because she doesn't speak it.

That's not a character flaw and it is not a shortage of love. It's a translation failure — and it's been running in your house for years. That's what the silence is. Not anger. Surrender.

I've been the one who did the unforgivable thing. And I've been the one who stopped reaching.

And I rebuilt it all by myself.

That's why I can see you both.

What I see when I look at you

You came here convicted. Every man does.

Maybe you had the affair. Maybe she did. Maybe nothing happened at all and the house just went cold. The road doesn't matter — the verdict is always the same:

I was supposed to make her happy, and I couldn't.

No one in that house is broken.

Here's the good news: that guilt you're carrying is evidence.

Evidence of your love and how much you truly care. It's not weakness and it isn't shame. It's your heart telling you there's more and you're missing it. Men who don't care don't lie awake feeling that weight.

This is not a character problem. This is a skills problem.

And a skills problem is the one kind of problem you already know how to solve.

I will never play the blame game: you're wrong, she's wrong, somebody's broken. It doesn't work to build what you both need.

I do the opposite — I show you the power you're already carrying and haven't been able to aim.

The fire you're standing in right now doesn't have to burn the house down.

Handled right, it can forge you into everything you've been trying to be. I've done it. And I've helped others walk out of the wreckage others said was impossible.

I will never tell you:

Just tell her she's right and do whatever she wants.

That advice makes me furious. It's the most common thing said to men in your position, and it's a lie.

There's no connection in it. You're not seen. She's not seen. You get quieter, she gets lonelier, and you both pretend it's peace.

Appeasement is the counterfeit of love.

Real love isn't a feeling you wait around for. Love is a force — the strongest one on this planet — and you wield it because you choose to. Not because she earned it. Not because you woke up feeling it.

That's why it only takes one of you.

That's my story.

Why would you want to work with a woman, and not another men's coach?

Your verdict is that you failed a woman.

No man can lift that. Not your pastor. Not your brother. Not another guy with a framework. He can tell you you're fine. You won't believe him — he isn't the one you failed.

It has to come from a woman. One who's seen the whole thing, who isn't impressed and isn't scared of you, and who will tell you the truth in the language your wife actually speaks.

A retired NFL player called me a juggernaut. I asked him what he meant. He said, "You are an unstoppable force, believe me I've met them before. "

He wasn't wrong.

I won't coddle you. I won't shame you either. I'll see you clearly, tell you the truth, and hand you the skills to unleash love again. And I won't stop till you get it.

I've been doing this work for thirty years. Two books. Married over forty years — through the affair, through the cold years, through every time God asked me to step up to a higher level that felt like it cost more than I wanted to pay.

I'm not writing to you from the safe side of anything.

What I know is one person walking in love can transform anything. I've watched it happen more times than I can count, and I've lived it myself.

You're not done. You're just getting started.

It's time to learn to love fearlessly,

—Genie

When you're ready to do something about it

I built a 30-day program called Win Your Wife Back. It's for the man I've just been describing — high-performing, out of moves at home, married to a woman who may have already given up.

It doesn't ask her to agree to anything. It doesn't send you to counseling. And you can start it tonight without telling a soul.

If you're not ready for that yet

You don't have to be.

Every week I write a letter called The Strongest Move. It goes out to men standing exactly where you're standing.

It costs an email address. No call to book. Nothing to explain, and nobody asking you what happened.

Read one. See whether I know what I'm talking about.

Love Fearlessly,

—Genie
